Virunga National Park.



Virunga - one of the oldest national parks in Africa. It is located on the north-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Over 300 kilometers of the park boundary coincides with the state borders of Rwanda and Uganda. Year of the official birth of the Virunga park is 1929. Then he was called Albert National Park and the Kivus. In 1969 from a single environmental object, Albert and Kivu has been allocated a separate Virunga National Park. Currently, the park area is bordered by national park land Ruzvenzori in Uganda and Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. Several years ago, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda launched an initiative to establish a transboundary biosphere reserve in the border area, which was supposed to enter, and Virunga National Park.
The area of ​​the Virunga National Park, 790 hectares Landscapes in the national park is very diverse. Here you can find herbaceous and woody savannas, low-growing constantly moist forests, bamboo thickets, marshes, meadows, glaciers, snowfields and lava's extensive plateau.
The park stretches from north to south and consists of three distinct parts. The northern part includes the Rwenzori Mountains and Semliki Valley, located in the center of Lake Edward and the plain Rwindi, Rutshuru and Ishasha.
