The main square Hauptplats

If you decide to wander around Graz, start from the Main Square (Hauptplatz). It really is an amazing place. There were mixed in a whole variety of architectural styles and trends: Late Gothic, Baroque and Classicism. Hence, the various parties disagree about a dozen streets and alleys.By the same story in this ancient area - in the second half of the XII century, it laid the Duke Otakar III as a market square. The main square is actually the historical city center. There is also a town hall, which was rebuilt three times. The area has the shape of a trapezoid in the middle of which is a monument to Archduke Johann fountain, and surrounded on all sides by buildings that have historical value. That only is the building of the pharmacy, "Adler", built in the XVI century. Or Shtyurk Palace (Palais Stürgkh), which now houses the hotel "Wine."
But, despite its historical significance, a main area are absolutely all tram lines of the city. There is a historical paradox: from 1938 to 1945 the area was named Adolf Hitler, but the inhabitants of the city to rename it completely not involved.
