This
ancient castle is considered one of the most beautiful and best preserved
castles in Central Europe. After all, Hohensalzburg
was built back in 1077. For
the construction of a fortress, Archbishop Gebhard chose the scenic summit
Festungsberga. Then
lock, towering over the city one hundred and twenty feet, was completed in the
present Romanesque style. However,
for centuries a fortress repeatedly changed appearance: its structure is
expanded several times, and thus built more and more consolidation. The wooden
structure was replaced in time strong walls of stone. Therefore,
each time a threat to any of the Archbishops of Salzburg, found in the majestic
walls of the fortress a safe haven. In the Middle Ages
of war and rebellion rose constantly. And
for many centuries of Natural History has repeatedly withstood the siege.
But
during the Napoleonic troops the fort was surrendered to the enemy without

or less close to the modern mind Hohensalzburg Fortress was in the sixteenth
century, at the time of Archbishop Leonhard von Keutshaha. It
was then that the building appeared defensive cozy apartments with luxury
finishes and furnishings. However,
the architecture of the castle changed and in the next century.The
nineteenth century Hohensalzburg turned into a place which housed the military
barracks. But
the twentieth century made the grim fortress of a prison for prisoners of war
from the Nazis and Italy.Today
the total area of the fortress is about thirty square meters. Here
is what visitors to admire the guests - Princely House with medieval atmosphere,
the Castle Museum, Golden Hall, decorated with a stunning luxury. Inside
the castle you can see a vast collection of weapons, and look at the
long-standing instrument of torture. And
with the rock fortress and magnificent view of the city of Salzburg and, more
importantly, here, just at a glance, see the other attractions of the Austrian
city. Besides
the usual way to get from Salzburg in the heart of the fortress and you can ski
the way - this way you can end up in a fortress in a few minutes. Incidentally,
the cable car runs from the end of the nineteenth century! Hohensalzburg
Fortress can be visited any time of year, but summer is going to artists from
all over the world for the International Academy.
